ABOUT THE SHOW

Hadestown is a modern re-imagining of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, set to a jazz and folk inspired soundtrack. Featuring a cast of Gods (Hades, Persephone, Hermes, The Fates) and Humans (Orpheus, Eurydice, The Workers, The Dancers), Hadestown follows two sets of couples (Orpheus & Eurydice and Hades & Persephone) as The Fates push them towards their inevitable ends.

Our production will be leaning into the American Folk aesthetic of the 1940s-60s, with our inspiration being the folk singers and songwriters of that time period: Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and especially Woody Guthrie.

Hadestown is significantly different than other shows that TAG has produced, in a few ways. First, it's a tragedy, which has its own set of challenges on stage. Second, it is a sung-though musical, which means that there is no dialogue...the entire show is sung, not spoken. In many ways it is more similar to an Opera than a traditional musical, in the style of Les Miserables, Evita, or Hamilton.

Hadestown won eight Tony awards in 2019 including Best Musical, Best Director, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Score.

AUDITION DETAILS

If you are interested in auditioning, please complete the form below, or follow this link. Auditions will start at the times listed above, and if you are unable to audition in person but would still like to be considered, please email the Director and we will try to find an option for you. Auditions are open to anyone ages 13-19 (with parents’ permission if under 18). If you audition on either Saturday the 12th or Sunday the 13th, please keep Monday the 14th free for potential callbacks. Monday is ALSO an open audition day, but if we need to call someone back for any reason from Saturday or Sunday, we will call them back on Monday.

Performances are the weekends of Aug 8 and Aug 15, 2025. Tech week will begin Aug 2, and no conflicts will be permitted during tech week leading up to opening night. Regular rehearsal schedule will be Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays with the occasional Saturday as needed, and as much as possible rehearsal schedules will be put out at least 2 weeks in advance. It is vital that you list ALL conflicts you have for the summer up front so that accurate rehearsal schedules can be put together.

SONG CALL

For the audition you will be singing from the show. Choose no more than TWO characters below to audition for and prepare both of the cuts for the character(s). Choose one to sing during auditions, you will only sing the other cut if asked. If you are interested in the Fates or the Workers, sing the cut in the key that best matches your vocal range. Tracks will be provided during the audition, but feel free to download and bring the track as a backup.

DANCE CALL

There will be a dedicated dance call for anyone interested in Eurydice, Persephone, The Dancers, or The Workers. Please be ready with clothing that you can move in, and choreography will be taught during audition.

ACTING CALL

Since this is a sung-through musical, there will be no acting or monologue call for this audition. You may be asked to cold-read with a scene partner if you are called back, but nothing is needed for the initial audition.
